      <Pgraph>Electrical measurements from wounded skin were made first in the nineteenth century by the great German physiologist Emile Du Bois Reymond. The significance of these wound currents in driving wound healing has only recently been fully appreciated. </Pgraph>
      <Pgraph>The existence and measurement of injury currents along with the underlying ionic basis for electrical signals, which is associated with wounds to skin and to cornea, is of essential importance for directing cell migration and cell division at a wound edge and the clarification of the electrical signal to act as an early and perhaps overriding coordinating signal for the wound healing response offer new perspectives for wound therapy.</Pgraph>

      <MainHeadline>Kurzfassung</MainHeadline>
      <Pgraph>Elektrische Messungen an der verletzten Haut wurden erstmals im 19. Jahrhundert von dem bedeutenden deutschen Physiologen Emile Du Bois Reymond durchgef&#252;hrt. Die Bedeutung von Str&#246;men in der Wunde f&#252;r die Anregung der Wundheilung wurde erst vor kurzem umfassend gew&#252;rdigt. </Pgraph>
      <Pgraph>Die Existenz und die Messung induzierter Str&#246;me in Haut- und Korneawunden sowie die derartigen elektrischen Signalen zugrunde liegende Ionenverteilung sind von entscheidender Bedeutung f&#252;r die Steuerung der Zellmigration und Zellteilung am Wundrand. Die weitere Aufkl&#228;rung der Bedeutung elektrischer Signale als fr&#252;he und m&#246;glicherweise vorrangige Signale zur Koordinierung der Wundheilung er&#246;ffnet neue M&#246;glichkeiten der Wundbehandlung.</Pgraph>
